Q: what are the definitions of a hominoid a hominid and a primate what are the similarities and differences between them
A: Hominoid is like any of the apes. Hominid has recently changed meaning in some circles. It might mean the member of the family hominididae which is the great apes but sometimes not Orangutans. The word used to mean, and still does in common usage, any upright walking ape thought to be closer to a modern human than a chimp. Now many prefer the term hominin to describe upright walking apes closer to humans. Primate is the order that include monkeys, apes (also humans), and prosimians like lemurs.
